Carrier Wellbeing
Your medical plan comes with more than coverage. There is money you can claim back, care you can reach at 3 a.m., and support that costs you nothing — most of it goes unused simply because people don’t know it’s there.
Reimbursement deadline
Fitness and weight-loss claims must be submitted by March 31 of the following year. Miss it and the money is gone.
Money you can claim back
Four programs pay you real money. Everything else on this page is support and access rather than cash.
Fitness Reimbursement
Up to $150. Health clubs, fitness studios, instructor-led classes, online memberships, and cardio or strength equipment bought for home use.
Doesn’t cover joining fees, personal trainers, fitness clothing, sports leagues, martial arts, or pool-only facilities.
Weight-Loss Reimbursement
Up to $150 a year. Hospital-based programs and qualified programs combining healthy eating, exercise and coaching, in person or online.
The plan documents state this is $150 per calendar year per policy — not per person.
ahealthyme Rewards
Earn up to $400 a year. A points-based program from Personify Health — track habits, join challenges, complete activities, redeem points.
The kit states this is available to subscribers only.
Childbirth Course
Up to $90 reimbursed for completing a childbirth course.
Two things worth knowing before you claim
The deadline is firm. Fitness and weight-loss requests must be submitted by March 31 of the following year. Blue Cross decides within 30 calendar days.
These reimbursements may be taxable. The kit states reimbursement “may be considered taxable income” and recommends consulting your tax advisor.
Help when you need it
24/7 Nurse Line
Talk to a registered nurse day or night about symptoms, a new diagnosis, your medications, or whether you need to be seen now. The kit is explicit: there’s no additional cost.
Well Connection
Live video visits with licensed doctors, available 24/7, and behavioral health providers by appointment — from anywhere in the US.
A telehealth cost share may apply. Check your plan.
Learn to Live
Self-directed online mental health programs built on cognitive behavioral therapy, with coaching available, at no additional cost.
Behavioral Health Case Management
Four case-management programs that support care alongside your own doctor. Enrollment is usually by outreach; you can also check eligibility yourself.
Team Blue
Member Service for coverage questions, claims, access problems, and reimbursement queries. Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. ET.
MyBlue
Your account and app: benefits, claims, balances, digital ID card, provider search — and the launch point for most programs on this page.
Maven and maternity support
Maven Clinic gives you virtual access to specialists across more than 35 fields, with a dedicated Care Advocate, at no additional cost.
Maven — pregnancy & postpartum
24/7 virtual support with unlimited video visits and messaging. OB/GYNs, midwives, lactation consultants, mental health providers and more.
Maven — menopause
24/7 virtual menopause support, same model, separate sign-up.
Maternity Care Management
One-to-one specialized support through pregnancy and after birth from a Care Manager.
Maternal Mental Health
Support, education and treatment referrals for anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns in new and expectant mothers.
Breast pumps
Compare pumps and order online — many are available at no cost and delivered to your door. Your plan waives the in-network cost share for one pump per birth, including supplies.
Lactation consultations
Network board-certified lactation consultants for breastfeeding support.
Two programs at no cost to you
Both are included with your Blue Cross medical plan. You must be enrolled in one of the three Apex-sponsored BCBS medical plans to qualify.
Hinge Health — virtual physical therapy
A digital program designed to help you manage chronic back, joint and muscle pain — from home, at no cost to you.
What it does
- Reduce pain and stiffness
- Improve strength and mobility
- Lower anxiety and depression related to chronic pain
- Explore alternatives to surgery
How it works
You receive a customized exercise therapy plan based on your condition. A dedicated health coach and physical therapist guide you through it. You get a kit with Bluetooth® exercise bands and a tablet pre-loaded with the Hinge Health app.
The program lasts 12 weeks, and you keep access to the app, exercises and educational content for 12 months.
Who can join
- Members age 18+ with a qualifying diagnosis for back, joint or muscle pain
- Eligibility is based on your claims history — if you qualify, you will see an invitation in your MyBlue member portal under the MyCare tab
This is exercise therapy, not physical therapy
No claims are submitted, and it does not replace your physical therapy benefit. It is a convenient, proactive option for managing pain alongside it.
Because no claim is filed, using Hinge Health does not draw down your 60 outpatient rehabilitation visits per year.
Virta — type 2 diabetes
A Blue Cross program for members managing type 2 diabetes, available at no additional cost to you.
Requires enrollment in an Apex-sponsored BCBS medical plan.
Stacking with your other diabetes benefits
If you are managing type 2 diabetes, three things work together: Virta, the waived cost share on your first two diabetes-related visits each year, and two diabetic eye exams paid in full through the vision plan. Completing an annual physical also earns $75 toward your wellness balance.
Everything on this page requires BCBS medical enrollment
These are carrier programs, so they come with the medical plan. If you waived medical coverage they do not apply to you — but HealthJoy does, including its EAP and app, because Apex pays for that separately for every employee.
Paying less for medication
Cost-Share Assistance — opting out is expensive
Administered by PillarRx, this program applies manufacturer coupons at checkout so you pay $0 to $35 depending on the medication.
If you don’t enroll, or you opt out, you become responsible for 30% of the full retail cost of eligible medications. That is a significant difference on a specialty drug, so it is worth understanding before declining.
Questions: PillarRx on 1-636-614-3128 (TTY 711), Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET.
No-Cost Generic Medications
Named generic medications for depression, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure are covered at $0 — copay and deductible both waived.
PPO $4000 and HMO only. This does not apply to the PPO Saver.
Mail Service Pharmacy
90-day supplies of maintenance medications delivered to your home through CVS Caremark, at the mail-service cost share for your plan.
Medication Lookup Tool
Check whether a medication is covered, what tier it sits in, whether prior authorization applies, and what the covered alternatives are.
Discounts, care navigation and travel
Blue365
Year-round discounts on fitness gear and apparel, gym memberships, hearing aids, nutrition programs, vision care and travel. Free to register, nothing to earn first.
ahealthyme
The wellness platform itself: health assessment, a personalized plan, educational content, and points for healthy behaviours.
Find a Doctor & Estimate Costs
Search providers, compare up to five doctors with quality ratings, and get cost estimates for more than 1,500 common procedures before you book.
Care outside Massachusetts
BlueCard and Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core give you access to providers out of area and worldwide, with international claims handled for you.
No benefit for medical evacuation or repatriation.
Check your hospital’s tier before a planned procedure
On the PPO and HMO, Hospital Choice Cost Sharing means your cost depends on which hospital you use — a single admission can differ by $1,000. Blue Cross publishes the list.

A note on eligibility
These programs come from the Blue Cross member kit issued for Apex. Several of the carrier’s own flyers carry the line: “To verify that this reimbursement is offered within your plan… sign in to MyBlue or call the Member Service number on your ID card.”
If a program matters to your decision, confirm it applies to your specific plan before relying on it.
